MEET LIZZI, COMMUNITY PHYSIOTHERAPIST & OWNER OF THE WELL BALANCED CENTRE
My name is Lizzi and I have lived in Mid Sussex with my family of 7 for the last 16 years. I graduated as a qualified Chartered Physiotherapist from Kings College London in 2005 and am registered with both the HCPC and CSP.
Since qualifying I have worked in both the NHS and private sectors providing inpatient and home based care for older patients. For the last 13 years I have specialised in treating older people with a range of orthopaedic and medical conditions and have a particular interest in falls and balance in this patient group.
I have also spent many years working with patients with dementia and feel very strongly that Physiotherapy can preserve and promote activity in these patients.
The Well Balanced Centre was born out of realising people were having to wait too long for NHS community services. We have seen first hand the impact of delayed rehabilitation on patients and hope that our service can bridge this gap.
Whether it’s as simple as wanting to get up and out of your favourite chair more easily or feel more confident with your balance or walking, we are deeply committed to delivering high quality community care for older people in their own homes.
Achieving Mobility Goals After Surgery

Areas We Cover
As we age, the body naturally experiences a decline in strength, mobility, and flexibility.
Through our patient-centred approach, we:
Conduct thorough pre-surgical assessments to identify and manage correctable comorbidities, enhancing patients’ functional status before surgery
Deliver timely and effective interventions to support early post-surgical mobilisation
Minimise complications during the acute phase of care
Customise rehabilitation plans to optimise recovery outcomes
Implement strategies to prevent future falls and fractures
We firmly believe that providing care within a person’s own home environment fosters a strong therapeutic relationship and supports meaningful progress toward their goals.
Home-based treatments may include:
Individually tailored exercise programmes to restore movement and function
Practising functional activities such as using stairs and performing daily tasks
Targeted balance training
Indoor and outdoor mobility practice
Assessment and adjustment of mobility aids

Frequently asked questions
Frequently asked questions
Is at-home physiotherapy as effective as clinic-based therapy?
Yes. In many cases at-home physiotherapy can be just as effective. It allows the therapist to work in the patients natural environment, making treatment more relevant to their daily activities. It also helps identify real-life challenges (like navigating stairs or getting out of bed) that might not be obvious in a clinic setting.
What conditions can at-home physiotherapy help with?
At-home physiotherapy can address a wide range of issues common in older adults, including:
Balance and falls prevention
Stroke recovery
Parkinson’s disease
Arthritis and joint pain
Post-surgical rehab (e.g. hip/knee replacement)
General mobility decline or muscle weakness
Do I need a referral from a doctor to start home physiotherapy?
No. You do not need a referral and can book directly with us. However, some insurance providers or health systems may require one for coverage. It is best to check with your insurance provider.
What should I prepare before the first home visit?
Before the first session, it is helpful to:
Clear a small space for movement/exercise
Have a list of medications and medical history ready
Note any recent falls or concerns
Ensure good lighting and a quiet environment
Inform the therapist of any mobility aids used (walker, walking stick etc.)
What our clients are saying
We thoroughly recommend Lizzi as an empathetic, skilful physiotherapist and would have no hesitation in calling on her services again.
After a 7 week stay in hospital, my Mum who has advanced dementia, sadly lost the ability to walk. Upon discharge we had to move her into a Nursing home but were determined to do everything we could to rehabilitate her and give her back quality of life. Lizzi came to us highly recommended and right from day 1 she made such a positive impact. She engaged Mum with sensitivity, patience and kindness and also showed a demonstrable understanding of dementia and quickly built a rapport with not only Mum but us as a family - involving us in her treatment sessions. For a couple of sessions she also brought her colleague, Jason, to support in some stand-aid activities and every step of the way, consulted us and discussed options and the practical realities and constraints of a patient with dementia. A true professional, it was a pleasure to work with Lizzi and we are very grateful for the support she gave us.
Gill.
