PHYSIOTHERAPY FOR FALLS PREVENTION

Targeted physiotherapy to improve balance, build strength and prevent falls before they happen.

How Can Physiotherapy Help With Falls Prevention?

One in three people over the age of 65 experiences a fall each year. Even a minor fall can result in injury, a fear of falling again and a loss of independence. Our physiotherapists specialise in identifying the causes of unsteadiness or imbalance and create targeted treatment plans to reduce the risk of falling at home and in the community.

Falls prevention physiotherapy can make a meaningful difference by improving balance and coordination and by building strength in the legs and core muscles. It also helps increase confidence when walking or using stairs, supports safe recovery after a previous fall and plays a key role in preventing future falls.

Who can benefit?

We provide expert physiotherapy for falls prevention, helping you or your loved ones stay safe, steady and confident in everyday movement. Falls are one of the most common causes of injury in older adults, but with the right support this can be prevented.

Older adults who feel unsteady on their feet or have lost strength and confidence in movement

People with long-term conditions such as Parkinson’s, arthritis or stroke, individuals with reduced strength or mobility

What does a physiotherapy assessment involve?

We conduct a thorough and personalised evaluation aimed at understanding your physical abilities, challenges, and safety within your home or living environment. It typically includes reviewing medical history, observing movement, assessing strength, balance and mobility and checking for home safety risks. The goal is to create a tailored treatment plan that promotes independence, reduces the risk of falls, manages pain, and enhances overall quality of life.

Here’s what it usually involves:

Medical & Personal History Review

Observation

Physical Assessment

Environmental Safety Check

Discussion of Findings

Care Plan Development

Exercise Prescription

Really grateful to Lizzi for the physio she provided at home for my Dad who was struggling with his strength and balance. As well as easy to follow exercises to improve strength, Lizzi also provided practical guidance on how to move safely around the house and what to do in the event of a fall. My Dad always looked forward to Lizzi's visits and would tell me how good she was. Lizzi also kept in close contact with me which I very much appreciated. Worth every penny. Thank you Lizzi 🙂

My father had a long stay in hospital in 2022, which left him unable to walk unaided. Lizzi came to work with him and her visits quickly became the highlight of his week. With great skill, kindness and unfailing humour she encouraged and enabled him to stand, then walk short distances. This gave him hope of a return to some mobility, which was so important to him. She brightened his life and became a friend to us all. My family and I absolutely recommend her. Thank you Lizzi.

What a wonderful company -my husband has vascular dementia and is extremely unbalanced while walking. Lizzi answered my initial enquiry within the hour and Jason has been visiting him regularly. His walking and general stability has improved and importantly, he's feeling much more positive. Jason is extremely kind and attentive and my husband listens and remembers his advice. Jason is very good at motivating my husband to keep moving & exercising and he's a skilled and dedicated physio. Highly recommend this company.

Lizzi played a very important role in my wife’s rehabilitation from residential care and returning home again. She first saw my wife at St Clare’s Care Home during the depths of her depression, from which it was difficult to imagine she would ever recover. In combination with the excellent care from St Clare’s staff and the Linwood Community team, Lizzi encouraged and aided my wife’s physical fitness that, in turn, encouraged her mental wellbeing.
We thoroughly recommend Lizzi as an empathetic, skilful physiotherapist and would have no hesitation in calling on her services again.

I organised physio for my Mum following a fall which affected her mobility in her legs but she hadn't broken it. From the very outset I was so impressed, the advice Lizzie gave me was so incredibly useful even before making an initial consultation. I was able to get an appointment just a few working days later. My Mum found Jason to be so kind, professional and respectful, her mobility was getting worse each day so urgent help was needed. At the second visit I had a call from Jason as he was concerned something else may be going on to impact her mobility further. Sadly there were other issues affecting her health internally and a few days later my Mum sadly passed away after going to hospital. I have had lovely messages from Jason and Lizzie since. I can't recommend The Well Balanced Centre highly enough. There are few companies these days that really genuinely care and go out their way. Thank you so much.

POSTED ON BEHALF OF A CLIENT:
After a 7 week stay in hospital, my Mum who has advanced dementia, sadly lost the ability to walk. Upon discharge we had to move her into a Nursing home but were determined to do everything we could to rehabilitate her and give her back quality of life. Lizzi came to us highly recommended and right from day 1 she made such a positive impact. She engaged Mum with sensitivity, patience and kindness and also showed a demonstrable understanding of dementia and quickly built a rapport with not only Mum but us as a family - involving us in her treatment sessions. For a couple of sessions she also brought her colleague, Jason, to support in some stand-aid activities and every step of the way, consulted us and discussed options and the practical realities and constraints of a patient with dementia. A true professional, it was a pleasure to work with Lizzi and we are very grateful for the support she gave us.
